The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) is one of Hong Kong’s leading non-profit private universities. Founded as Hang Seng School of Commerce in 1980, it was officially granted university status by the Hong Kong SAR Government in October 2018 — making it the first self-financed institution in Hong Kong to achieve this distinction. Today, HSUHK comprises six schools serving over 7,000 full-time students with a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, all accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications.
HSUHK is distinguished by its unique “Liberal + Professional” education model, which combines broad-based, cross-disciplinary learning with professional subject elements. The University believes that undergraduate education goes beyond imparting knowledge — it is about cultivating personal values, transferrable competencies, and a sense of social responsibility, equipping graduates to become well-rounded, confident individuals ready to meet the challenges of the future.
In terms of academic recognition, HSUHK’s School of Business received AACSB International accreditation in 2023, placing it among the top 6% of business schools worldwide. In the AppliedHE All Asia Private University Ranking 2026, HSUHK ranked 7th in Greater China — the only self-financed institution in Hong Kong included in the ranking.
HSUHK distributes approximately HK$20 million in scholarships and bursaries to nearly 1,000 students each year, ensuring financial circumstances need not stand in the way of a quality education. Its “One Student One Internship” scheme guarantees every student a full-time internship opportunity, and graduates achieve a full-time employment rate of close to 80% within months of graduation — a testament to the University’s commitment to nurturing work-ready, socially responsible leaders.
