CMG has been a firm supporter of the medical humanitarian aid
organization Médecins Sans Frontières
(“MSF”) aka “Doctors Without Borders”.
Established in
1971, MSF is an international emergency aid organization that
provides vital medical relief to populations in trapped in crisis.
Every year, MSF sends out about 27,000 doctors, nurses,
epidemiologists, water-and-sanitation experts, logisticians and
other aid workers every year to provide free, quality medical aid
in over 70 countries around the world. MSF field workers serve in
some of the most remote and volatile places in the world in order
to reach victims of conflict, natural or man-made disasters,
epidemics and sexual violence, and to reach those who are barred
access to medical care.
As an independent and
self-directed organization, MSF’s actions are guided by medical
ethics and the principles of neutrality and impartiality. This
means that the assistance MSF provides to people is based purely
only on need; irrespective of ethnicity, religion, gender, and
political affiliation or social group membership.
MSF
was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999 in acknowledgement of its
efficiency and impartiality in the delivery of humanitarian aid. MSF conducted 8,316,000
outpatient consultations, treated 1,642,800 malaria cases,
conducted 78,500 major surgical procedures, assisted with 185,400
births, and admitted 347,800 malnourished children into therapeutic
feeding programs in 2012.
